Projects and Budgeting Template

Did you know that Microsoft provides SharePoint users with 40 predefined templates? These templates provide out of the box custom scenarios tailored to address the needs and requirements specific to business processes and tasks. Templates are easy to use and can serve as a baseline for customizing SharePoint solutions specific to your business. One such template is the Budgeting and Tracking Multiple Projects Template.

The Budgeting and Tracking Multiple Projects template for SharePoint Technologies helps users manage projects and their related budgets, tasks, issues, and milestones. This template provides project managers the ability to enter project information incldung estimated start and end days, project health, project owner, percentage complete and budget information in both currency and days. In the same application, project team members can enter and update tasks, issues and milestones and associate their actions to specific projects. Both project health and task items can be displayed in various views including a Gantt Chart view or a list format.

At the project portfolio level, the template includes a visual dashboard showing the overall status of all projects, including percentage complete, red, yellow, green indicators of whether the project is on budget, and a listing of project issue and task status.

Here are some of the benefits to using the the SharePoint Budgeting and Tracking Multiple Projects Template:

§ Create and manage project lists with start and end dates, project budgets, project
owner and information regarding the health of the project.

§ Enable users to enter project related tasks and issues, choosing to either assign
them to a team member or leave them unassiged in order to allow the project
manager to assign the task.

§ Change dates for tasks by dragging and dropping bars on a Gantt Chart.

§ Create threaded discussions where team members can use a built in rich text
editor to discuss the project and RSS functionality.

§ Upload documents that are relevant to the project, enabling version tracking and
"checking out" of the document for offline editing.
